Intramurals and Recreation

Fisher offers a number of programs and activities dedicated to providing you with fitness, friendship, and fun.

Fisher recognizes the importance of balancing academics with healthy athletic competition, physical fitness, and year-round recreation. Whether you’re looking to compete, get fit, or just have fun, you’ll find plenty of athletic opportunities.

Intramurals

Intramural competition is available each semester. Fall activities include flag football, co-ed soccer, and co-ed volleyball. Spring semester activities include basketball (men's, women's, and co-ed), indoor soccer, co-ed volleyball, and floor hockey.

SJF intercollegiate athletes are not allowed to participate in intramurals in the sport that they played at any time during that academic year.  This includes seniors after their seasons have ended.

SGA Fitness

In addition to club sports, Fisher's Student Government Association sponsors free yoga and Zumba classes on campus. Sessions for each fitness class occur twice weekly and are open to anyone of any ability.

Club sports at Fisher are supported by the Student Government Association. Current, full-time undergraduate students are eligible to participate in the following:

  • Hockey Club

Fire Pits

There are several propane fire pits around campus. To use one, please contact Safety and Security at (585) 385-8025. 

  • When lit, the fire pit must be attended at all times
  • Nothing may be burned or cooked in the fire pit
  • All users must exhibit responsible behavior
  • Use is at the discretion of Safety and Security

Trails

Enjoy Wynd's Woods Trails from the front of Murphy Hall, past the athletic fields and into the woods. View the . Deer, fox, flying squirrels, and woodpeckers are among the wildlife you can see if you are patient and quiet. Fisher EcoReps are happy to lead hikes in this area and can be contacted at sustainabilty@sjf.edu.

Bike Racks

are available behind Dorsey Hall, near Dugan Yard, outside of Growney Stadium, Haffey Hall, both sides of ISHS, at Murphy Hall, Polisseni Complex, near Lot S (Park & Ride), and by Skalny Science Center.

First-Class Facilities

The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Athletic Center is a hub of campus activity.  Housed within the complex is a 30,000-square-foot open-span, multipurpose field house that hosts all indoor intramural leagues, student recreational activities, and varsity team practices throughout the school year.

Also located in the center is a two-tier fitness room and a weight room, which are open to the entire campus community. The fitness room offers numerous cardio machines, a complete cable system circuit, and lightweight dumbbells. The weight room is focused on free weights and power lifting.

Growney Stadium allows for all-season and night-time play for intramural activities, in addition to Fisher's intercollegiate teams.

On the south campus lie a softball field and four regulation grass fields, which provide opportunities for intramural leagues and recreational sports. The all-weather, lighted, artificial-turf field at Growney Stadium allows for all-season and night-time play for intramural activities, in addition to Fisher's intercollegiate teams.

The Campus Center serves as the hub and central gathering place of student activity on campus. The first floor of this two-story facility contains general student gathering spaces, which include a relaxing indoor/outdoor space, recreational area, offices for student clubs and organizations, and The Cardinal Shop (University Bookstore).

Intercollegiate Athletics at Fisher

Ó£»¨¶¯Âþ competes in NCAA Division III as part of the Empire 8 Athletic Conference, the Eastern College Athletic Conference, and the Liberty League.

Student-athletes at Fisher are not only effective on the field, they are good students in the classroom and good citizens in the community.

At the intercollegiate level, men compete in 12 varsity sports: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, indoor track and field, lacrosse, rowing, outdoor track and field, soccer, tennis, and volleyball.

Women compete in 12 varsity sports: basketball, cross country, field hockey, golf, indoor track and field, lacrosse, outdoor track and field, rowing, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball.
